From a very young age, I knew: “I wanted to be a midwife.”
I’ve always found midwifery fascinating. Every woman carries and gives birth to her child in her own way. As a midwife, you’re the point of contact during this beautiful, but sometimes difficult, phase in someone’s life.
I was admitted to the Rotterdam Midwifery Academy, which I completed with great pleasure and enthusiasm. In 2016, I started working as a midwife in a busy Rotterdam city practice. There, I gained extensive experience in supervising birthing pools at the Sophia Birth Center. Because I view the process surrounding birth as natural, a birthing pool is a wonderful way to stimulate the natural course of labor.
My fascination with the profession continued, and so I enrolled in ultrasound training. In 2018, I obtained my ultrasound certification and am now an experienced sonographer. I also have extensive experience inserting and removing IUDs. You can contact me with all your questions about contraception.
After more than four years of enjoying working in a busy Rotterdam city practice, I’m ready for a new challenge. Something I’ve always wanted to do: start my own midwifery practice!
By providing sufficient time and attention while supporting the pregnant woman and her partner, I want to create trust in the birthing process. That’s why I believe it’s important that the care is small-scale and personalized. That’s why Sylvia and I decided to start our own practice together in 2020, where a small-scale approach and personal attention are paramount.
Every time, I find it an honor to be present and to play a role in one of the most special moments in the lives of a pregnant woman and her partner: becoming (re)parents. I hope to meet you soon!
I have two beautiful children myself, a son, Sam, and a daughter, Anna. Experiencing the carrying, birthing, and feeding of a child has further strengthened my affinity for midwifery.
